Two current EC members, Dr Fabio Gomes (WPHNA President) and Dr Margaret Miller (Professional Affairs Secretary) will continue as part of the EC, as their positions were not open for election in this occasion.

The following EC positions remain vacant:

  • General Secretary
  • Treasurer
  • Membership Secretary
  • Projects Director

These can be filled by cooption. WPHNA Members who are interested in supporting the EC in any of these roles are welcome to contact us at secretariat@wphna.org.

ELECTION PROCESS
The election process was announced during the WPHNA World Nutrition Cape Town 2016 Conference, and the call for candidates was published online on 1 September 2016. The deadline to submit applications was 31 October 2016 at 13:59 GMT.

A total of 7 applications were received. Of these, only 5 were considered valid (fulfilling all eligibility criteria and not presenting any real or perceived conflicts of interest that could compromise the image and integrity of the Association). The valid applications can be downloaded here.

Since there was only one eligible candidate for each position, they are automatically elected without the need for voting, following the WPHNA Governing Document. The WPHNA Membership was consulted about the applications and no concerns were raised.  The process was submitted for evaluation of two independent scrutinizers, Professor Mark Lawrence of Deaking University in Australia and Professor Rina Swart of the University of the Western Cape in South Africa, who concluded that due process was followed and the results were valid.

NEXT STEPS
The new Executive Committee will take office from January 1st, 2017. The process of handover from the current EC to the incoming EC will take place through a series of teleconferences in the first months of 2017. The new EC will be tasked to finalize the WPHNA Strategic Plan 2017 – 2020, currently being drafted.
