Angela Carriedo Lutzenkirchen

Angela Carriedo Lutzenkirchen 109 x 151I was born in 1980, in Mexico City, in a traditional Mexican family with some German genes. I have always loved food and science, and also I love topics of social work. Since secondary school I have committed myself to contribute to improve health in my country where both poverty and health inequities are prevailing.

Amplifying my spectrum of knowledge and cooperation with academic work in the areas covering public health, health behaviour and nutrition skills, as well as evidence for policy making, will help to achieve my goals. A holistic understanding to enhance population health is needed.

I studied nutrition at the Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico City (2000-2005), with an internship at St. Francis Xavier University in Nova Scotia, Canada. After my undergraduate studies I worked at the National Institute of Public Health (INSP) (2004-2006) with Salvador Villaplando, on the novel Mexican trials for childhood obesity. I obtained my MSc in public health nutrition at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (2007), where Ricardo Uauy supervised my project.

I am currently a researcher at INSP. Since June 2012, I am contributing to the project ‘Fighting obesity in Mexico: Supporting the design and evaluation of effective social actions and public policies’ with Juan Rivera. I have also worked with Simon Barquera and Barry Popkin on food labelling. Also I have coordinated various INSP projects. I have been trained in social marketing for public health at the University of South Florida, and in community-based participatory research at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. I have been trained in the short course on paediatric environmental health within the INSP-Harvard-Universidad de Murcia collaboration.
